Exciting times ahead! GeSS Education have secured a partnership with South Sydney College (SSC) to offer another pathway of employment opportunities to our students. Diploma and Advanced Diploma Information Technology courses specialising in Cyber Security. Cyber security is a growing field and has become a new opportunity for Australian businesses, and those businesses need qualified staff. Australia is facing a severe skills shortage in the cyber security sector and is currently short of 2300 workers, with an expected demand of at least 17,600 additional professionals in the sector by 2026. In keeping with our vision to provide education that leads to employment, GeSS Education are delighted to partner with South Sydney College.

Estimating the cost of pure cybercrime to Australian individuals: The total economic impact of pure cybercrime to individuals in Australia in 2019 was estimated to be approximately $3.5b. Importantly, this is a conservative estimate, as many victims were unable to report how much they had lost or how much they had spent dealing with the consequences of cybercrime. This also excludes the cost to business and government from pure cybercrime. Only a small proportion of financial losses are recovered by victims. Pure cybercrime is a highly profitable criminal activity and results in significant financial losses to Australians. In the United States, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (2020, 2019) estimated the total losses from cyber-enabled crime to be US$3.5b in 2019 and US$4.2b in 2020. On the 30 June 2020, the Federal Government announced it will make the nation’s largest ever investment in cyber security, with $1.35 billion over the next decade to enhance the cyber security capabilities and assistance provided to Australians through the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) and the Australian Cyber Security Centre.
