SIS50321 Diploma of Sport (Coaching & Sport Development)

This course provides the skills and knowledge to pursue a career in sport coaching and sport development. Work in sport: coaching athletes; managing competitions, sports venues and facilities; and identifying / developing athletes.
Study modules in: ethics in sport, coaching, sport development and sport leadership.
Employment for Sports Coaches is rated as “very strong growth”.
Sports Coaches, Instructors and Officials coach, train and instruct participants in sports, and officiate at sporting events. Job tasks include:
• coaching, training and instructing sportspersons by analysing performances and developing abilities
• planning and directing game strategies, developing play patterns and analysing game progress
• motivating Sportspersons and supervising practice sessions
• recruiting players and other coaching staff
• arranging entries into sporting competitions
• promoting sports and skills development, and overseeing the participation of young people in sport
• officiating at sporting events to enforce rules
• coordinating and directing sporting activities, and liaising with other officials to interpret and enforce rules and regulations relating to sport
The number of people working as Sports Coaches, Instructors and Officials (in their main job) fell over the past 5 years and is expected to grow very strongly over the next 5 years:
from 39,700 in 2018 to 47,800 by 2023. Job openings can come from new jobs being created, but most come from turnover (workers leaving). There are likely to be around 28,000 job openings over 5 years (that’s about 5,600 a year).

Sport Development

• SISXFIN001 Develop and review budgets for activities or projects
• SISXMGT001 Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships

• BSBTWK503 Manage Meetings
• HLTWHS003 Maintain work health and safety

Entry Requirements:

• Year 10 high school certificate or equivalent OR
• Certificate IV in a relevant qualification OR
• Mature aged student with relevant workplace experience
• English level: IELTS 5.5 or equivalent
• Basic computer skills and access to a desktop or laptop with sufficient internet speed to undertake online studies

Are you looking to pursue further study? The Diploma of Sport can create a pathway towards further study at the Degree level in Business and Sport Development.
With our articulation arrangement with Griffith University, Diploma of Sport graduates receive credit towards the 240CP degrees below:
50CP credit transfer for the Bachelor of Business
40CP credit transfer for the Bachelor of Sport Development
