As 2020 comes to an end my thoughts turn to gratitude for what has ended up being a fantastic year for GeSS Education. While there has been challenges  – which most businesses have faced this year, we can be thankful that we not only kept our team but we increased it. This is my measure of success. The people around me!!!! Without our dedicated team putting in extra hours (just for the love and passion they hold for our dreams) throughout the whole year, we would not have survived. We have achieved monumental goals:

• Launched our campus on 20^th January 2020
• Continued with our brand awareness campaign including radio, TV, train, cinema and social media advertising
• Added more courses on to scope to ensure diversity
• Created a new Management arm (DSM) for International students
• Added more partner RTOs – TESS & FitEducation
• Added government funded certificate programs to our offer – which meant a whole year of resource development in front of us
• Opened our Student Information Centre on ground floor of Australia Fair
• Opened a GeSS Education – South Asia Regional Office in New Delhi
• Partnered with Centacare – GeSS Education campus will be their recruitment hub for Gold Coast, Logan & Beaudesert region; ensuring maximum benefits to our students

The campus is now buzzing with students working hard, milling  around the common room, undertaking practical classes in the prac room, attending employability skills workshops, enjoying guest speakers from Centacare, and not to forget our growing online cohort of students. None of this could have happened without the dedication of our Partners, Marketing team, GeSS LMS team, Admin team, and our Trainers.

As the media points out, 2020 has been such an unprecedented year. That is an understatement. We opened our campus one week before COVID-19 hit Australia Fair, literally the news went national and then global, then 2 weeks later the news broke of Tom Hanks contracting the virus on the Gold Coast. For once, we were praying that the Gold Coast could stay out of the media.  But, because we have been in this business for over 25 years, and our backbone has been in compliance, resource development and our state of the art online training platform; we were able to adapt, disrupt and move forward.  Plus with our long standing relationships with key stakeholders,  Education Agents, partner RTOs, and Universities; one can call it faith, positive attitude or tenacity but whatever you want to call it, we were determined that COVID-19 would not get the better of us – even though the education sector had been hit very hard this year. Our campus, its nurturing environment, and the dreams we have for our students was paramount; and this essence of GeSS Education being a ‘home away from home where you will be treated with utmost respect’ is spreading.

2021 is shaping up to be a monumental year. The news of vaccines throughout the world, Victoria pushing for international students to return (come on Qld!!!) and the outstanding response of Australia’s politicians to the challenges of COVID-19; in my opinion, has led Australia to be seen as the safe option for all students in the future. For GeSS Education, 2020 was all about adaption and planning; 2021 will be all about implementing and striving to change the lives of our students through education and helping them achieve their dreams; whether it be employment or pathway to University.
